Finding good food late at night

By the Food Hunter team · Updated October 2026

Which types of places stay open late, what to eat for supper, and how to check opening hours.

Places that stay open

Many hawker centres close by 9–10pm, but some coffee shops, prata shops and 24-hour fast-food outlets stay open past midnight. In Malaysia, 24-hour mamak restaurants are the classic late-night choice. Zi char stalls often run until 11pm or later. Supper spots cluster near busy neighbourhood centres and major roads.

Classic supper dishes

Roti prata, bak kut teh, frog porridge, satay, fried carrot cake and dim sum at 24-hour restaurants are popular late-night choices.

Check before you go

Opening hours change, and stalls inside a coffee shop may close earlier than the shop itself. Check the listed hours on the Google Maps listing before you go, and confirm again if you are travelling far.

Stay safe

Late at night, choose well-lit places with other diners, share your plans with a friend if you are young or travelling alone, and use the Google Maps or Apple Maps directions buttons to get there by a sensible route.
