How to weigh reviews, recent food posts and neighbourhood recommendations in any destination.
Read beyond the stars
Look for reviews that mention specific dishes, portion sizes and service. A high score from a handful of ratings is different from a long record of consistent feedback. Read a mix of recent positive and critical reviews to understand the trade-offs.
Separate buzz from proof
A popular video can introduce a place, but views do not prove the food is good. Check that a post actually names the venue and consider its date, whether it is sponsored and whether several independent diners describe similar experiences.
Give neighbourhood places a chance
Ask a resident which dish they return for, rather than only which restaurant is famous. Small stalls, family-run cafes and market kitchens may have few online reviews. Limited online coverage is not proof of poor quality.
Confirm the practical bits
Check the address, current hours, booking requirements and menu before going. Review the map route rather than relying on straight-line distance; rivers, roads and station entrances can make a nearby spot a longer walk.
